Data from the Hong Kong Wedding Merchant’s Association (HKWMA) shows that of 45,000 to 50,000 newly-weds every year, 40 percent prefer to use more simplified wedding procedures, which cost about HK$50,000 to HK$60,000 on average.
“Weddings in Hong Kong are influenced by the social culture and general economy,” says David Cheung, vice-president with HKWMA
“Normally they would not have enough savings for a wedding until they are 28 years old, and the trend is getting older; yet in the Chinese mainland, on the contrary, that age would be about 25,” says Cheung.
Cheung says the average cost of a Hong Kong wedding is HK$250,000 to HK$280,000 in recent years. But some couples courting value for matrimony could still tie the knot for a minimum HK$50,000 to HK$60,000 with careful planning. “Seldom would anyone pay HK$1 million for a wedding in Hong Kong as people do in the Chinese mainland.” ….
